2007/2008 Activities

This year we've been enjoying a lot of fun activities: take a look below! (Click on photos to see larger version.)

Japanese Tea Ceremony

In March Orientals Abroad celebrated the Japanese Spring Festival: “Hina – Matsuri” or Hina Doll Festival, where dolls of the Emperor’s Court are put on display in costumes. It is a festival for girls only. In Japan this is one of the important events announcing the arrival of spring. We had the opportunity to see a Tea Ceremony where we saw what the traditional manner of serving tea is like in Japan. We tasted a green tea called “Macha”, a powdered leaf tea, and Japanese sweets in an unusual tatami room of the Associazione Culturale Urasenke.

Fashion Show

On Tuesday, April 8th we held our annual Fashion Show. This year we chose a designer/tailor shop which has ready to wear or made to order clothing which is elegant, affordable and easy to wear for all occasions. The clothes were from an off the street shop called Pezze & Spilli which is in via Meina, 4 (tel. 02/6706481). The make up was done again by Clinique. There was also the usual flaunting of interesting costume jewellery (provided by i baluti), handbags and shoes.
The main meeting was held in the morning as usual but downstairs on the first floor of the club house. Then at 12:30 P.M. we made our way upstairs to be treated to the fashion show. Afterwards, we ate a very good lunch prepared by the caterers of Circolo Volta.

Loreto Neighbour to Neighbour Coffee

These pictures were taken at the home of Ernesta de Laurentiis, who hosted the Loreto Zone neighbourhood coffee at her home on Thursday March 27th. We hope to see more newcomers among the group!

Morning Concerts

Below are photos taken of members of the Club who meet regularly for the General Rehearsal Concerts at Dal Verme. This group also meets for special concerts at Christmas, Carnival, and for Charity Concerts in Milano and elsewhere when possible. For example, the Concert In Aid of the World Food Program organized by Lions Lombardia Club for the famine in Sri Lanka with singer and Benvenuto member Kimberly (last January the 30th).
The photo with musician Avi Avital was taken on March the 13th, in the Hall of the Dal Verme Theater after his rehearsal with the Orchestra. That is generally the pleasure of attending the Morning Concerts, to listen to the works-in-progress of the musicians and orchestra, different directors coming from abroad and Italy, to follow their musical program and sometimes to meet them too.

AIM Wine Tasting

On Friday, March 14th AIM held a very successful wine tasting evening at enoteca n'ombra de vin (which means “glass of wine” in Venetian dialect), close to San Marco church in Brera zone. Twenty-two people attended, and they all raved about it! The setting was in a wine cellar with vaulted ceilings, tables set with linens and candelabras. Wines were wonderful and the evening was a good value for the price. It was suggested we do this every other month, so we can really become familiar with many of the wines from different Italian regions!

40th Anniversary

The evening of January 19th 2008, the Benvenuto Club of Milan celebrated its 40th Anniversary since its inception in 1967. Several past Presidents were present at the Ceremony, attended by 140 participants, which started with aperitivi at 8.00 p.m., followed by dinner, with Kimberly Covington delighting us with her lovely commanding voice accompanied by her K:C: band. The cake, with the Benvenuto Logo, was a lovely sight for all to admire.

Bazaar 2007

The annual bazaar is an important fundraiser and opportunity to share the holiday spirit. This year many, many gifts were donated for our charity raffle.
