Americans in Milan
Who We Are
We are a sub-group of the Benvenuto Club of Milan, and any member of
Benvenuto may join. We are not a club that is just for Americans: our
membership is as inclusive as America itself. Our members are a diverse
group drawn from many nationalities and ethnic backgrounds, and any woman
with enthusiasm is welcome to join us.
Our Mission
The purpose of AIM is to foster friendship both within the
American community and the international community of Milan. One important
goal is to support our members in their transition to life in Italy
through participation in social and charitable activities. To further
these goals, we provide information on American and Italian issues,
Italian culture, and everyday life in Italy, as well as other topics of
interest to expatriates and Italians alike. In addition, we celebrate and
provide information on American holidays, customs and culture, as well as
participating in and supporting community affairs throughout the year.
Our Meetings
AIM meets one morning per month from September through June.
The location is in the center of Milan and meetings are usually held on the
fourth Thursday of each month. Members and those interested in becoming
members may contact us for times and any other information at americansinmilan@yahoo.com.
Note to members: you will be notified
of any last minute changes affecting our monthly meetings or special
activities via email, or by telephone if necessary.
Our Special Activities
An important benefit of joining AIM is our various special
activities. We truly try to provide “something for everyone”! Some of
our trips are for women only, some for couples, and some for the whole
family. In the past, for example, we’ve planned day trips to the Italian
lakes, visiting such places as Como, Stresa, Orta San Guilio and Isola
Bella. We’ve held Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties, Valentine’s
dinners. We’ve toured a variety of villas. We’ve attended classes on
art, architecture, antiques and Italian cooking, and added to that
knowledge on tours around the city of Milan and to cities further away,
such as Mantova. Twice yearly, we go on wine trips where we’re able to
visit vineyards and cellars, learn about and taste different wines, and
bring some bottles home for our own cellars, if we like. We’ve gone to
carnevale in Venice and in Viareggio. We’ve visited clothing
manufacturers, silk factories, embroidery mills. We’ve ridden the Bernina
Glacier Express and spent the weekend in San Moritz. We could, in fact, go
on and on, but we’re too busy planning more new and exciting activities
to add to our old favorites.
For information on activities for this month, please check the Calendar.
